The 100-year GWP is used to derive CO 2 e. 298 x – nitrous oxide (N 2 O) – I.e. Releasing 1 kg of N 2 O into the atmosphere is about equivalent to releasing about 298 kg of CO2. Nitrous oxide persists in the atmosphere for more than a century. It’s 20-year and 100-year GWP are basically the same.

Since each greenhouse gas (GHG) has its own radiative capacity, all three gasses (CO2, CH4 and N2O) must be accounted for by calculating the net global warming potential (GWP) in a crop production system.
